Other Contracts and Back-Room Deals

If you’re going to do deals in Japan, you’ll need to know how to talk about contracts. Here are a few more words of this ilk:

成約 (seiyaku: to conclude a contract)   to be completed + contract

約定 (yakujō: promise, agreement)     promise + to determine

I want so much to read this as yakutei! But has two on-yomi: TEI and JŌ. Although TEI is much more common (as in 予定, yotei: plan, in advance + to determine), pops up in 勘定 (kanjō: calculation, account, to check + to settle) and 案の定 (annojō: as feared, sure enough, fear + as it is).

契約 (keiyaku: contract, agreement)
to make an agreement + to make an agreement

盟約 (meiyaku: pledge, pact, alliance)     alliance + promise

Sample Sentences About Contracts …

And if you’re going to do any shady, back-room deals, you should once again be verbally equipped for this:

内約 (naiyaku: private agreement)     inside + promise
密約 (mitsuyaku: secret agreement)     secret + agreement

Ah, it’s our old friend !
