言霊 (kotodama: soul or power of language) to say + soul
It’s surprising to see 雨, “rain,” at the top of 霊 (REI, tama: soul). According to Kenneth Henshall, 霊 (along with slightly different versions of this shape) has at various times meant “raindrops,” “falling from heaven,” and “gods” or “spirits.”
