J-pop? J-rock?

Postby theresachan » July 25th, 2006 9:48 am

I can't really tell what's J-pop and what's J-rock...
Anyway, My favourite on my iPod are songs by K, Hirai Ken (平井堅) and EXILE.
I also listen to Dream, Crystal Kay and Chemistry.
But then, my selection depends on what I can get off my friends... lol.

J-Pop from anime

Postby Nate » October 4th, 2006 12:57 pm

Most of my exposure to J-Pop comes from listening to the music in Anime. I keep hearing about the Pillows so I will try to check them out and see what all the hubub is about. My tastes are generally eclectic (everything from techno, jazz, prog rock, celtic, christian, and oldies rock).

Other Japanese artists I like are Keiko Matsui and Hiroshima. Great stuff.

I now have an ever-growing list of j-bands i want to get a hold of. The pod casts for each host happens weekly, but there is usually one new show a day, lasting around a half hour. DEFINITELY worth a wee peek.

If you, or anyone check it out, let me know what you think. ^___^

B'z is the greatest band in history, no doubt. They're one of the most high-selling bands in history, with millions and millions of album sales.

I love Asian Kung-Fu Generation and 175R.
I like to look at Yamapi, not much of a fan of his music, but he's so pretty! :D

I love Ajikan too, especially Kimi to iu hana. Ellegarden are great, and although their English is awesome, I prefer their Japanese songs (don't have that whiny American accent). Jitterbug, Starfish and Lost World are three of my favourites.
175R is probably one of the better Japanese bands around, at least, three of the members are pretty talented. What is up with the singer, though! As far as I'm concerned, he ruins that band. Every time I try and listen to their music, I really dig the instrumental openings and catchy riffs, but as soon as the vocalist starts singing...oh, it's like fingernails down a blackboard and I've gotta switch it off. Sack him and get someone who can actually sing, I say! Well, that's my 二円 worth.
