Kaiten sushi help!

Postby MiaGilaani » May 18th, 2012 5:57 pm

I'm going to Tokyo next week, its gonna be my first time there, one of the things which I really wanna do is do the camera -on -the- sushi- conveyor- belt- thingy in kaiten sushi bars, where on a plate people put the camera and it travels all around the area, I've seen alot of youtube videos like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... vLcpUz79kk
and I think its really cool, however it depends on the place sometimes they allow it and sometimes they don't so I wanna ask the sushi chef or whoever is standing near the belt first if I can do so. My Japanese is very basic and my comprehension is better than my conversation, so how should I say "can I put my camera on the conveyor belt for a while please?" or "is it ok for me to put the camera here? I initially thought of just pointing to wards my cam and then the belt and say ee deska? but I'm not sure

Perhaps ここに置いてもいいですか。(whilst pointing the camera at the belt)

BUT did you read and understand the two "Top Comments"?

ところで、日本語では言葉がつながっている時に、二回目のに濁点に掛ける時が多い。
例えば、「回転」+「寿司」は「かいてんずし」になる。

> MiaGilaani-san,
I didn't know there were people doing that at all....wow.
Like ericf-san answered, "can I put (it) here?" is 'koko ni oitemo ii desu ka".
However, I must agree with ericf-san regarding this action itself (puting camera on the belt).
At the end of the day, it's restaurants' decision whether or not they allow you to do that, but
from hygiene point of view, you really shouldn't :(
(there're food without cover)
Let's enjoy Japan without making other people feel bothered!

> ericf-san,
Thank you very much for replies!! It's kind of you to answer the question AND give a proper advice!
I completely agree with you :) :)

MiaGilaani-san,
LOL
Glad you understood :D
People in video could seem NOT to care, but, this is very Japanese...they might be thinking without showing....
If you still want to know how to say "can I put (it) here?" in Japanese (which is usuful in any situations),
suggested phase was "koko ni oitemo ii desu ka".
If you want to put your luggage, for example, in vacant seat, you can use this sentence.
Also, if you want to sit there, point the vacant seat and say "suwattemo ii desu ka" (=can I sit?).
