Your favorite Japanese food?

For me it's gotta be Edamame!
I could eat those delicious little beans forever and a day. It's freaking addicting!
What about you guys?
P.S. Has anyone here tried Natto? Can you describe it to me?

I haven't really eaten that big of a variety, so I guess I can just say what I have had and how I like it.
I had edamame once, and they were really nice.
I really like sushi, though I'm not a big fan of nigiri except for the ebi (shrimp), tamago (sweet egg), and unagi in small doses(fresh-water eel). I tend to like maki-zushi a lot more. I guess I just don't have much of a taste for raw fish with just rice. But I LOVE inari. <3 Shimizu-sensei made us some to have before we took our last midterm. That's good stuff. <3

I had chicken yakitori at Disneyworld a couple of years ago. It was nice. I would have had it again when I went out to eat at a Japanese resteraunt with my parents a few weeks ago, but my step-Dad got to most all of it before I did. ;_; But that's ok, cause in retaliation I took most of the gyoza dumplings.
I've had yakiudon both straight and the version that comes in a miso-like soup (whose name escapes me right now). It's really good though I still really suck at eating udon with chopsticks.
I've never tried natto, but i have seen it. I have to say I have no intention of trying it...

Answering the natto question is tough. It looks like little beans covered with a very stringy, viscous liquid. It's a bit bitter and astringent. THe smell is a bit rough, butlike blue cheese you just have to work through it.

You mean miso soup? Or is there some other kind of miso as well?
I really like the soup. It's much better home made as compared to the little instant packets though. Gyoza are awesome as well.
Hmmm, yeah Henna I'm not a fan of blue cheese either. Haha. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough for natto.

Yeah, I meant miso soup in particular. But I love just about everything miso based.

I've never tried anything too unusual. I mainly eat nigiri with salmon on top, or maki with cucumber, peppers, tuna or something inside. The only thing I can think of that I don't like too much is those Japanese omelettes. I think I should start trying some of the weirder stuff though...

What kind of dish is that? Chicken and nuts or something?
Donburi = Nuts? I think so...
I really want to try yakitori. Anyone had that?

It's essentially fried chicken over a rice and vegetable bowl. There was some kind of sauce on the chicken. And yes, yakitori is good.

Sashimi donburi is my favorite Japanese food to really splurge on, but I probably only eat it once or twice a year.
While in Japan, I really liked yakitori, especially the yakitori with leeks.
I also really liked okonomiyaki.

Curry Rice・カレーライス for me.
Can't get enough of it. Even the stuff prepared at the FAST FOOD (we're talking the curry in front of you in 30 seconds) curry places, I really enjoy. For those wondering, Japanese curry is quite different from Indian curry, which is also very good!

I love indian curry, I'll have to get my hands on some Japanese stuff.
Sucks, the only Japanese restaurant in my city recently closed down due to lack of business...stupid uncultured city...won't try anything new. *grumble,grumble*

I really liked the curry udon I had in Japan. It seemed like a pretty standard option for udon bowls and I recommend trying it once.

Lucky for me Seattle has a really big Japanese population there is a real history behind it. So lots of restaurants and festivals. My favorite is fresh pounded daifuku mochi. At one of the community colleges around here they have a fall festival. They have a guy come out and pound mochi all day with audience participation it is really fun to watch, do, and eat.
