No prob. He's bein' pretty informal, and was really surprised to hear you don't like rice. If you don't already live in Japan I'd suggest going there and trying theirs, because they don't export it and it tastes different.

Then again, my grandmother hates rice, so that's where we have the saying 住人十色(juunin-tooiro, 10-people 10-colors, to each his own).

tastes different? :?
well IMHO, i think the only difference is the price.
being that japan refuses to import rice.
i personally haven't noticed any difference after its been cooked and served.
neither has any of my friends expressed any difference,
unless...
american rice really does taste that bad

Well I like all sorts of rice, so you're talking to a biased source here. I guess if you don't like one you won't like the other, but to me there is a taste difference and doesn't seem that subtle. Maybe I'm just weird.

もうそんな日本語は分からないって書いてあるでしょう? 日本語がうまいけどここには書いたらもったいないと思います。それに格好よく見えるように書くより、このフォーラムの人々に手伝う返事を書いたほうがいいと思います。

You already know that he doesn't understand you, right? Your Japanese is good but writing like that here is a bit of a waste. Personally I feel it's better to write a helpful response than just trying to look cool.

So sure, this is the Japanese practice forum-- practice. But don't respond in Japanese to a guy who doesn't understand you unless you're gonna provide a translation as well.

i'll translate,

だってさ、(but)オレの弟(my younger brother) ご飯めちゃ嫌いで(really doesn't like rice)
まだ分かれないんだ。(i still can't understand why he doesn't like rice)
ちょっと可笑しいんだけどなぁ (but he's a little bit strange)

だって is the same as でも however informal さ is a masculine particle
オレ is the same as 私 but stronger and only used informally by guys
弟 おとうと is younge brother
めちゃ is kansai dialect and means the same as とても
分かれない is the negative potential
and finally 可笑しい おかしい means strnage, funny or unusual.

だってさ、オレの弟ってご飯めちゃ嫌いで、オレ、まだ分かれないんだ。ちょっと可笑しいんだけどなぁ

でも、私の弟はご飯とても嫌いです。私はまだ分かれません。弟はちょっと可笑しいですけど。

i think that would be correct as a formal sentence, however i may be wrong.
