Erklaren?

Postby maxiewawa » August 25th, 2006 10:53 am

Hi, I'm wondering about Erklaren. Does the cast of Japanesepod101 all work there? What other languages do you speak? You mention that you are "specialists in Japan-China negotiations" Does anyone from the show speak Chinese?
(I thought Erklaren was the "translation and interpretation specialists")

I think it's funny that they've choosen a german word which means "to tell" with the ä-sound that is a little bit hard for japanese (not only japanese) people to pronounce. :)

Haha! Me too. For the first few months I thought it was Eric Leynan.

I think some of the crew work there. I'm pretty sure Natsuko-san said that she does in the video of the Apple meeting they did way back.

Incidentally (if any Erklaren employees are reading this), there are quite a few broken links on the Erklaren website, particularly the 'HOME' link.

Incidentally, it's quite easy to read using rickaichan. It lists japanesepod as an associated company (関連会社), incorporated as 'Innovative Language Learning Co Ltd.'

:D oh no, you're not the only one  I'm german, and - yeah - it is said differently every time, but... incredible in how many ways you can pronounce that word wrong :P
BTW, it means "to explain", not "to tell". (Maybe there's again the 教える-problem lurking.)

oh jesus, i'm almost listening to the podcast half a year, and didn't notice that the company name is "erklären". I thought it would be something like "air cleaning" ...

Yes, I must say that Erklären had VERY little value for money in their sponsorship until Marvin-san appeared. I had NO IDEA what the hell peter was talking about.

Peter, for the sake of your sponsors - and the german language - please, PLEASE, learn to say erklären. Or even better, invite a german speaking japanese person. I've met a few who spoke it quite well, there must be some around. PLEASE! Or cut your own voice out and let marvin do that bit.

Erik Clennan I thought it was. Ne'er heard of him. Ne'er heard of Erklären either, but there's a fat chance I'd find them if I googgled for erik clennan :)

It's funny how the Japanese 'borrow' words from other languages, screw around with the pronunciation and no one complains; (today's lesson has 'kurisumasu') but English borrows a word from German and we all notice it.
