Saravanan's Japanese Learning Log

Postby Saravanan » October 5th, 2015 9:17 am

こんいちは。

私は サラバナンです。シンガポール人です。(I am Saravanan.[I am] Singaporean).

Hi,

I am Saravanan from Singapore. Just started learning (self-study) Japanese from last month onwards. I would like to record my learning notes here as and when I get time. It will also help me to practise what I learned. Hope to get some help if I make any mistakes.

There are two ways to write my name in 日本語。"va" can be translated as バ or ヴァ。I found that pronouncing "va" as "ba" is more common and hence thought I will use that in my name (サラバナン)。 Not sure whether that is the correct thing to do.

すみません for my mistakes in 日本語. Hope I will improve slowly.

Since I am not a native Japanese, wondering how do I write my name "Saravanan" in Kanji. Any one has any ideas?

If I write the character き、さ like they are in printed form instead of using handwritten form is that considered wrong way of writing?

Why the first stroke in the first part of the character 左 and 右 are different? The FIRST PART in both the characters almost look same (at least to my eyes), but the stroke order is different. i.e. For 左 the first stroke is from "left-to-right" stroke first, whereas for 右, it starts from "top-to-bottom" stroke first. Is there any specific reason for the different stroke order?

Saravanan san,
こんにちは。 :)
Your sentences are all correct except こんいちは.
That must beこんにちは.

Regarding your name, you can choose サラバナン or サラヴァナン.
That is your preference.

You can choose kanji, too.
Kanji doesn’t have ヴァ so you have to use ば for kanji.
場 馬 葉 羽 婆 罵 芭 歯 刃are read as ba.
何 難 軟 南 楠 納 男 are read as nan.
When you choose kanji, please check the meanings.

Regarding the stroke order, that was decided to write easily for right hinders.

Saravanan san,
こんにちは。
And writing き and さ, if you write them, native Japanese speakers can understand them however, strict Japanese teacher might want you to write hand written module hiragana.

すみません。Sorry, that was a typing mistake (I am using Romaji to input Japanese characters. missed a "n" while typing it). Will be careful next time.

with regards,
