Bicycle Shop Questions

Postby carronade_503275 » January 8th, 2015 12:00 am

I've been forever fascinated and intrigued by commuting and touring Japan by bicycle. In my time there this summer, I've seen an endless stream of bicyclists pedaling home at night during rush hour and have found various Bicycle shops doing searches on line.

Besides the ubiquitous 'Mama-Chari", young Japanese Men & Women seem to have a conscious flair for the well equipped commuter, fashionable 'fixie' and even the latest in road racing machines.

I've wondered, If i were a cyclist needing repairs on my faithful steed, how would you properly phrase these basic repair issues to a Bicycle technician at the shop?:

-I need a flat fixed.

-My brakes need adjustment.

-My derailleur needs adjustment.

-There is a grinding noise in my Front/rear Axle, Bottom Bracket.

-My chain is skipping.

-My *headset/wheel /hub, is loose.

Carronade san,
Konnichiwa.
That is exiting!
-I need a flat fixed.
Do you mean a flat tire?

-My brakes need adjustment.

-My derailleur needs adjustment.

-There is a grinding noise in my Front/rear Axle, Bottom Bracket.

-My chain is skipping.
(I am not sure about it. You can just say

-My *headset/wheel /hub, is loose.

I hope it could help you.

Carronade さん、
Konnichiwa.
I am not an expert of a bike and didn’t go to a bike shop for many years so I am sorry I have things I unsure.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us.

Yuki さん、

Konnichiwa!

Your input & help however unsure is an immense help.

Your response was exactly what I was asking & I'm sure If I or another visitor pedaled through wonderful Japan and needed some help from a shop, they would be understood using your phrases!

Carronade san,
Konnichiwa.
I am a bike expert so if I were you, I would say “( ) の調子が悪いので見てもらえますか”.
You can put any parts in the bracket.
I don’t think you need to point out your bike condition specifically….
Is it necessary in your country?
