What sizes have the squares in a notebook where japanese students write, and in the normal life japanese people use any kind of size or there is a standar size?

Personally, I just use an everyday gridded notebook to practice writing and it's effective enough for my needs. It's probably cheaper to buy than print, but if you feel like playing around with sizes you can go here: http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/plain/

I don't know about a standard size-- while there probably is one, proportion is more important when writing characters.

It is depends on their grade. According to the following site;

　Grade 1-4 : 18mm x 17mm
　Grade 2-5 : 17mm x 15mm
　Grade 3-6 : 14mm sq
　Grade 3-6 : 14mm x 12mm
　Grade 4-6 : 11mm sq
　Jr High : 11mm sq

Well, those were very good answers, I use notebooks with squares of 7mm and I thought I was some wrong but now when I wanted to use squares of 11mm they look to big, but anyway this was very helpful.
