Hi Nekomancer0158144!
I'm also in Newbie level (season 2 up to lesson 12 so far). However, I am approaching Japanese with my previous experience of learning English (I'm Thai and have been studying and going back and forth between Thailand and Australia for 11 years). I have some prior knowledge on Japanese (completed Japanese for busy ppl 1 and Minna no nihongo 1&2, a while ago), so I can still remember some Japanese vocabulary.
My approach right now is to learn the kanji as I go. I found that the maximum amount of kanji for me is about 50 per week. I started JPod101 about a week ago. I tried pushing it to 60 in the previous week; but I found, even with constant repetition, I just couldn't learn them (The writing as well as the meaning).
Another thing which I find useful with learning is that it doesn't have to stop when you close the book or put down the pen. If you continue to think about the material that you have learned about throughout the day, you will master the topic in no time.
A final thought though. Don't be discouraged by what other people say about the amount of time it takes to become good at something (in this case Japanese). People judge others via their experiences and the things that happened in their lives; Yours will be different. Becoming good at japanese in 2 months is a bit far fetched (As I'd previously found out

), but how long it takes is entirely up to your own ability. Find a system that fits with the pace of your life, and that's the best speed with which to go. But whatever you do, do not stop learning.
