Help please

Postby Bruce » May 18th, 2006 5:46 pm

My wife and I just got back to the US from our first trip to Japan. We stayed with my Grandmother at her apartment in Narita for a few days and I am trying to find out where it was at. I don't have the address or anything. But I do have this picture of a train station right by her place. Here is a small section of that picture that I think says what station it is. It's in Japanese so I can't read it. Could someone tell me what it says? Thank you.

It says Kohoku.
It seems to be a station on the Narita Line.

I hope it helps :P

Actually if the picture had a little more pixels you could see that the sign is written in kanji, hiragana, and romanji (roman alphabet).

But the reading is correct kohoku

湖北

湖 - also read as みずうみ or lake
and
北 - also read as きた or north

So kohoku - > North Lake or maybe North of Lake. I think there is a town called Kohoku North of Lake Biwa (琵琶湖) in Shiga prefecture

ah thank you. I do recall reading kohoku. I still can't seem to find on the map or google earth where this station is. Oh well I'll just ask my Grandmother. Here is the whole picture.

I think the last person was right. It seems more likely that the kohoku station you were at was on the JR Narita line in Chiba prefecture.

If you go to the below link you will find it:

It is here (not surprisingly, north of a lake):

If you zoom in, you can see more detail of course, even down to the little sheds to the right of the tracks in your picture.
