Cantonese lessons, perhaps?

Postby kikory » August 22nd, 2008 2:09 am

Uhm. I know this doesn't have to do with Japanese-learning. But I didn't know where to put this topic.

Ever since I was four years old, I've wanted to learn Cantonese - it's my favorite language of all-time. I've been searching ever since for Cantonese lessons, but good ones are SOOO hard to find! All I ever found was Mandarin lessons - which is not even on my top ten favorite languages.

I found this lovely series of language-learning websites, but to my horror, they didn't seem to have Cantonese! So I finally managed the courage to post on the forums - which I am deathly afraid of - a simple suggestion.

Perhaps you pod101.com peoples could make Cantonese lessons!

I understand that Mandarin is probably more useful, but Cantonese is still extremely useful. And besides that, there's already a very good Mandarin podcast in existance - chinesepod.com. If there's already one, why compete with it by making another? Why not just make a Cantonese podcast instead? Besides, it would probably be a huge success due to the lack of good Cantonese lessons in existance.

Anywho, that's my little suggestion.

Until then . . . does anyone here know of any good Cantonese-learning websites? =3

http://www.cantonese.ca/
http://www.chinese-lessons.com/cantonese/
http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/

Try these, in particular the latter. Also search for "RTHK naked cantonese" in ITunes for an irregular podcast, there is a big backlog for you to get through. I currently live in Hong Kong and have tried to pick up some of the local language, but I am concentrating more on Japanese at the moment. I have found Cantonese to be very similar to the Japanese on-yomi readings.

Good luck!
