Have any of you guys seen the Kuitan series? I would have to say that it is one of my favorites. I found the story line (Its about a detective who solves mysteries through eating food) quite a relief after watching too many school themed dramas. The only downside to it was that every episode left me craving for whatever food they were focusing on for that episode :P

I just started watching Hana Yori Dango this weekend. Ahh it's so good! I was hooked from the first episode. Only 3 episodes to go. Can't wait to watch more!

This was my first j-dorama, too. I can't believe I've been missing out. I'll definitely be checking out more shows soon!

I am so glad to find this thread here! I just recently started watching Japanese and Taiwanese dramas. They are so addicting!

Hana Yori Dango is still my favorite, I love seeing Jun Matsumoto in it. It's a great part for him and he's so adorable as Doumiyouji. He is wonderful with Mao Inoue, too. The manga compared to this is not as good. I had a difficult time with the art style. Also, Tsukushi was very head over heels in love with Rui which they played down some in the drama (thank goodness!).

I loved Hana Kimi, both Taiwanese and Japanese versions. Somehow, I didn't like Shun in HK as much as in other dramas. WHY SHUN? You're normally so wonderful to watch! T_T But Toma made me adore the Jdrama, he was so amazing! In the taiwanese one, I loved Ella, Wu Chen (ahh, so handsome!) and Jiro (so goofy and ridiculous)~ They made a great team.

I just finished season 1 of Gokusen and once I get over being bitter about NO JUN in the next two seasons I'll watch those as well.

I'm glad to get some fresh recommendations for new dramas to watch. I really like getting to hear the different types of speech, it was challenging since my brain is used to the more standard Japanese. :D

Ooohhhhh a Jdorama thread! Hana Yori Dango was great as well as Hana Kimi. Another more recent one that I thought was awesome was Yamada Taro Monogatari. The two main stars are from the group Arashi, my favorite group, who are Ninomiya Kazunari and Sakurai Sho. In case you don't know, Matsumoto Jun from Hana Yori Dango is also in the group. Ninomiya Kazunori also had a major role in Letters from Iwo Jima.

Other recommendations: Hotaru no Hikari, cute drama, Bambino was great too (Matsumoto Jun stars), IRYU Season 1 and 2, IWGP, as long as you dont' mind some strong language, and GTO. There are lots of others that I really like but these stand out.

I am glad to find fellow jdorama fans. Atashi mo dai fan nan desu!
"Kurosagi" is great! Thanks to all for all the suggestions!

"Long Vacation" was my starting point and one of my all time favorites.
From watching Jdorama I started to learn Japanese, from time to time
I re watch (or just listen to) ones I have seen a while ago, to check my progress...

Here are some others, that I watched more than once.
Nihongo no benkyou no tame ni... ka... dou ka...
Sad ones I do not like to watch again; action ones does not have
enough language content. They are not included.
"Love Generation"
"Oishii Kankei"
"Beauty ga Beast"
"Tiger and Dragon" is a lot of fun with mukashi banashi (Upper Intermediate level)
"Manhattan Love Story"
"Nodame no Cantabile" very animated, also serve as a Classical music 101.

Movies I have watched more than once (intermediate):
"Tampopo" a Classic
"Shall we dance" Not the American version, please.
"Ima Ai ni yuki masu"
"Ten goku no honya"
"Hana to Alice"
"Mimi o suma se ba" a Miyazaki animation ="Whisper of the Heart"

I love Kuitan! although I have to agree, all the food they talk about make you want to go and eat T.T I wanted to eat so much sushi at one stage...

My other favourite J-dorama have to be Jikou Keisatsu and Bengoshi no Kuzu. Both are focused on law and police but very good :)
