Spelling

Postby Jackleit » December 9th, 2006 7:26 pm

I came across the term つずり in one of the lessons, and it was defined as "spelling". In the example, they talk about asking someone to spell their name in English. Does this word only apply to foreign words, or could it also apply to Japanese words? Could you ask a Japanese person お名前のつずりをお願いします? If so, would they respond in hiragana syllables?

AFAIK, 綴り (つづり) is used only for alphabetic spelling.
