Learning Japanese in Japan

Postby maxmark2015_508632 » October 26th, 2015 4:09 am

Hello, how can a European person study Japanese in Japan? I mean, what are the conditions in term of visa, choice of school, fees etc ...? If anyone knows, please share the information. Thank you!

Hello Max Mark, if you intend to study more than 3 months, you will need to apply for a student visa. To study in Japan, the main conditions are age (18 years old) and background (you need to have been to school at least 12 years in your life in total). It is really not so difficult to apply but there is quite a lot of paperwork. To help you deal with that and expedite the process, you can ask an Agent to assist you (they are free for students). To learn more, you may want to check this site: http://motivistjapan.com/

You can get study visa if you want to study there and then after you can join some institute to learn Japanese language or you can hire a tutor to learn.

I would add that you should pay attention to the language school you choose if you want to stay more than three months. They don't all offer visas. If you stay less than three months, then it's not a problem.

As an European myself, I would recommend you to also choose a school designed for Europeans (i.e: not already used to Kanji). Studying Japanese with Chinese people for example might be a little bit depressing...
