How to say where I'm from?

Postby Jessikweh » April 12th, 2015 12:07 am

How would I say "I am from [city] in [country]" in Japanese? For example, let's say I want to say I'm from Sydney, Australia as a way for me to introduce myself, not as a response to a question.

じこしょかいさせていただきます。
わたしわジェシカです。

オーストラリアのシッドニーのしゅっしんです
Is it "Australia no Sydney no shushin desu" or "Australia no Sydney shushin desu"?
オーストラリアのシッドニーしゅっしんです
(Shushin is the way we are currently learning it)

Or am I way off base & have written it completely wrong?

Thanks :D

The second version is correct. You can say it two ways:

<country> no <city> shusshin desu.
オーストラリアのシッドニー出身です。

shusshin wa <country> no < city> desu.
出身はオーストラリアのシッドニーです。
