Quick Mac question

Postby Charles » May 18th, 2006 3:15 am

While writing in Japanese on my Mac, I'm noticing this box popping up a lot more often.

Image

It looks like it's trying to fill in the phrase I'm writing, but I'm not sure how to use it. Does another Mac user know?

If not, can anyone translate that little text that's on a grey background? I can barely make out a couple of the characters. :\

It says:
最近使った言葉:タブで選択
(Recently Used Words: Select Using "Tab")
Which answers your other question, I believe.

If the pop-up box annoys you, as it does me, you can turn it off in your Kotoeri preferences. Uncheck this box:

Kotoeri Preferences -> 入力操作 -> 過去に使用した言葉から入力を予測して...

Access Kotoeri Preferences from the input menu on the top right-hand side of your screen.
(It looks like the letter "A", or hiragana "あ", depending on your current input mode.)

And an even better question, how would you get your mac to display the furigana with the kanji?

No can do. Mac OS X doesn't support ruby markup.

Here's how to use furigana for MS Word, though:
