Learning Japanese books

Postby 3xadpp » June 5th, 2011 5:56 am

I've been thinking of buying some Japanese learning books, so I want to ask some recommendations which are good?
By the way, some time ago Japanesepod101 was selling some book (if I remember correctly), so don't you sell it anymore?

If you want books on grammar, the Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar is a good place to start, IMO. There are pronunciation books, too. How far along are you?

Well, my level is about lower-intermediate now, so I guess your suggested book would be too simple to me.

I want grammar books and also some that would be good for kanji learning. Do you know anything like that?

There's the Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar, and the Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar. They're all three parts of a series. I'd suggest getting the Intermediate book, and seeing whether it's the right level.

For beginning to learn kanji, I highly recommend Heisig's Remembering the Kanji Book 1, and the site kanji.koohii.com. They teach writing and basic recognition of a character. You'll need another approach to learning pronunciation and vocabulary.
