Well, don't feel sad; decrease in population doesn't have much to do with needs for Japanese language!!
I sincerely don't believe Japanese became obsolete because of China, and never will. So, hang in there!
I'll have to visit someday, though, I'd personally prefer a trip to Tokyo, Japan. Ideally, I'd visit both if I had the money. Until then, I can thankfully stay connected with the Japanese thanks to the Internet with places like Japanese101, youtube, Twitter, and Skype.
