One of the most popular tea from Ito En is : "Oi ---o Cha!"

My favourite by far. Well, at least the bottled variety anyway. Besides the taste, I particularly like their ongoing Haiku competition with the winning entries being printed on the side of every bottle; it gives you something to think about while sipping away.

Shincha - tea of this year is already available. The most delicate and fresh among Senchas.
More explanations about Shincha you can find at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shincha_tea

Tea in Japan

Postby mplana » May 20th, 2007 5:35 pm

Hello minna-san,

I was about to suggest a Culture Class about tea in Japan, but first I had a look at what was cooking in the forum and I found this interesting thread. Sugoi!

I manage a website about tea; unfortunatelly it is in Spanish, but if you are curious, you can have a look: http://www.tebebo.com/

I also wrote an article about tea in Spain for a Japanese magazine about Spanish culture (that was some time ago). If someone is interested, I can send it along in Japanese.

You have given a lot of interesting links here; thank you everybody.

Marcela

I love Sencha and matcha but some of the bottled teas are down right gross. I have no idea what teas I tried that I liked but I now know which ones to stay away from.

Too bad the only way you can get Japanese powdered teas in most places is to buy online. I'm lucky in a way, I can get several different kind of teas at my local asian market but not as many as I'd like.

I wonder just how many kinds there are.
