Hello eveone!

Who can help me?
I was so happy :oiwai: when I figured out how to put Japanese on my keyboard and to change different lanuages easily.
When I was trying to type I noticed the A-key becomes ち, but ち means ti/chi.
I lost a lot of time searching what the reason is, but I can't figure it all out.

Amanda-O-san,

Sorry I didn't notice this post earlier, so this reply is about two weeks late

It would be useful to know what operating system you're using. I'm using Windows 10 right now, and I can't quite remember how to do it on other operating systems, but if this solution isn't any good to you, let me know what OS you are using and I can look it up.

There should be a language indicator on your taskbar: click on that. You'll get a menu showing the list of languages you have installed, and also Language Preferences. That's what you want to click on.

The language settings window will open up, and under the Languages heading, you should, again, see the languages you have installed. Click on 日本語 and then on the Options button that appears.

Now you'll see the Japanese language options here. Look down that page under the Keyboards heading. You should see Microsoft IME (Input Method Editor) there. Click on that and, again, click the Options button.

Now you're in the Microsoft IME settings. If you look under the Hardware keyboard setting here, you'll see an option saying "Use kana input" that can be set on or off.
  • On = You type in kana, just like you're describing, using the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) layout.
  • Off = You type just as if you were typing in rōmaji and the IME automatically translates it into kana.

If you need to get used to typing Japanese on an actual Japanese keyboard, then by all means, leave it on. But if you just want to be able to type Japanese more easily, then you can switch it off.

Hello, what about on Android tablets? Are there any good Japanese keyboards that I can install and switch out easily between it and English?

There are many programs that help us to learn this language. Learning Japanese is not so hard if you are shown the right path to learn it. Both Rosetta Stone and Duolingo have played a vital part in providing various language learning skills. But the best part is that if you are provided with a great design and understandable format. Recently I have purchased a set of Japanese Hiragana flashcards from Cardia. Those flashcards are of great design and provide immense knowledge for learning.

For learning Japanese, you should write and read alphabets with a proper accent. Keep regular with Japanese language and communication with well expert persons because the environment will provide a great help to learners.

Hello from Greece. I have just started learning Japanese (two days ago I had the second course).

I installed Japanese with Microsoft IME in my computer and I am able to type hiragana. It takes a little time in order to find with key is mapped for each Hiragana but I do not complain.

However, I have a question. How do I insert a Hiragana with dakuten?

For example, key "h" displays ku (く). If I need ku with dakuten (ぐ)?

Is there any kind of keys' combination?

For example, in Greek language if I need a letter with an accent mark I have to press the single quote key prior to that of the letter. I suppose there is something similar with Hiragana.

Thank you for your comment. For ぐ, please try typing gu.
がぎぐげご
ga gi gu ge go

I hope this helps.
