history/Culture podcasts?

Postby Spiderwick » July 3rd, 2013 9:58 am

Does anyone know an easy way to find podcasts to do with Japanese history, tradition, literature...? Recently I listened to the one on Akanme and loved going away researching the history, art and impact on other forms. Though I like the 'real' conversational podcasts, I much prefer the cultural ones as it really inspire me to find out more - making even more enthusiastic in my studies and developing my knowledge of the country. I've tried going through some of the curriculums but am struggling to find anything similar. I'm sure they must exist ?!
Thanks
Anne :)

JapanesePod101 has the Culture Class, Onomatopoeia, and Yojijukugo lessons that cover interesting culture points, but might be too easy. The Advanced Audio Blogs also cover interesting topics but they might be too hard (they are still too hard for me!)

Other than that, audio books about Japanese culture might be the better route!

There is actually a really wonderful audio book on the history of Japan. It is by the Great Courses series. The audio book contains a series of 24 lectures by a professor of the subject. I got it through Audible. I can vouch for its quality. I have several of the Great Courses...one on Rome, another on Vikings, they are really well done and might be a start for you! :D
