N4 compared to N5

Postby JoeMorton » April 16th, 2013 9:04 am

Hello boys and girls,

I've got JLPT N4 coming up in the summer and I was just wondering how much more difficult it will be than the N5. I've heard the jump from N4 to N3 is pretty massive, but I'm not sure what to expect from the N4.

Has anyone done both ?

Cheers

Joe

Joe-san,
hope it's not a huge jump... :D
Have you tried our JLPT prep lessons?
You might get rough idea about N4 if you try some of those lessons.
Good luck!

It's quite a bit more difficult than N5. I don't really know what more to say. I took N4 6 months after N5 and passed.

It might sound obvious, but make you sure know the vocabulary and te grammar. The kanji is useful too, but I think you will get more marks if you know the vocab and the grammar than if you know the kanji.

Good luck.

マーティンさん、
thank you very much for the advice!! :D
It's never "enough" or "too obvious"; it's always the best to hear from someone who actualy took the exam!

Thanks for the advice, I know the Kanji and most of the vocab now, I'm mainly working on my reading speed, the thing I struggled the most with on N5 was running out of time, at least I know what to expect this time.

JoeMorton-san,
I know what you mean. Reading always take time and we often experience that the time is not enough...
Hope you can do better this time, and we know you will
Good luck!
