If you liked PonPonPon...

Postby mmmason8967 » August 11th, 2012 12:55 pm

I enjoy heavy metal music by bands like Rammstein. I also have a secret weakness for catchy bubblegum pop tunes. You can already see where this is going, can't you?

BABYMETAL are Idols doing heavy metal. Who could possibly resist catchy bubblegum heavy metal? Not me, evidently. The link below is a YouTube HD video of BABYMETAL's ドキドキ・モーニング.

I think perhaps you are just being polite, 奈津子さん :D

Actually, my very favourite Japanese song is 翼をください. And my favourite version is the one from the second ヱヴァンゲリヲン movie because the singer really sounds like she is yearning to fly away. In fact that version is not just my favourite Japanese song, it's my favourite song, period.

マイケルさん、
I love 翼をください too!! :D
It really is a great song and we learn it at music lass in school (usually elementary school).
I've never listened to エヴァンゲリオン's version, but it sounds very cute!

The first time I watched the Evangelion movie, I assumed the song was written for the movie. When I looked for it on YouTube I found hundreds and hundreds of different versions and eventually I realised that everyone knows this song. So it wasn't written for the movie but was, in fact, yet another cultural reference that I hadn't known about.

The movie makers actually write エヴァンゲリオン as ヱヴァンゲリヲン, using characters from the わ column instead of the あ column, including ヱ. If you go to the Evangelion website you see that the katakana is not square and heavy like you usually see, but is narrow and in a very beautiful font that makes the kana look almost like brush-stroke kanji. Is this another cultural reference I am not seeing? Do the pretty kana and the obsolete spelling give the word a special feeling?

My English version of Windows does not do ゑ、ゐ、ヱ or ヰ by default. It took a while to figure out how to add them. And now I realise that this message is very probably the only time I will ever use them.

マイケルさん、
How did you tried to enter those letters?
If you want to enter ヱ for example, this letter ヱ is amongst those "candidates" when you enter え (probably after some kanjis like 得, 江, and 絵).

As you know, those "i" and "e" are no longer used in normal writings. So, you can probably find them in "simbols and special letters" on MS Word too

I actually didn't know ヱヴァンゲリオン was with this old "e"
It's interesting!

奈津子さん

You're right, it is in the candidate list. I never even thought of looking there.

The Japanese that I write is very simple. When I press <space> it always chooses the correct kanji. I almost forgot that there was a list.

The BABYMETAL song is supposed to be written like ドキドキ☆モーニング but I didn't know how to get ☆ so I used ・ instead. But you just type ほし and press <space> and it's in the list! すごい!And if you keep doing it, the ☆ becomes the automatic choice! So that's why it always knows which kanji I use.

きごう works too. And おんがく. Now I know how 原宿 bloggers do all the カワイイ♥♪♫ stuff!

I enjoy Ii Ne! and Ijime, Dame, Zettai more than the song you originally linked to. I concur with your assessment though, they're a fun band. They're all members of Sakura Gakuin too but I prefer their BABYMETAL style.

Kikuchi Moa, one of the younger girls, is absolutely adorable. Kanojo wa watashi no okiniiri desu!
