moshi moshi, breaking a myth?

Well, in many lessons of japanesepod101 I see they say that when you call someone you must say "moshi moshi" but... the japanese dramas, in the books, and Asking to japanese friends they say that is when you answer the phone then you must say "moshi moshi".

Japanesepod101 created a myth?
