PDFs on iPhone

Postby jmechan » December 10th, 2009 10:29 am

Hi there,
In studying for the JLPT I was trying to read the pdfs accompanying the JLPT4 last minute prep course on my iPhone. Unfortunately the japanese text didn't come out properly...in some areas it came out but not in the tables particularly, making it difficult to study the vocab lists. I tried various different software for reading the pdfs - pdfpro, quickoffice etc..

Can anyone help with this at all?

Thanks,
Jon

I have the same issue with the PDFs (free, kanji focus and premium), but on my Nokia n810 and my Acer netbook. On the n810 if I use the evince reader it can render some of the documents correctly. On the Acer, free PDFs are completely unreadable but premium ones work in some software.

I believe it's a problem with the PDF formatting and not with the readers - I've never had a problem with other PDFs including those with Japanese characters in. If you can find a pdf reader for the iphone which allows documents with loose formatting you might be able to read them.

The ideal solution is for Jpod101 to change their PDF creation software and to batch process all the previous ones with a good PDF checker.

ipod notes display

The ipod notes display that comes with the lesson is also center justified, which makes it very difficult to read. Left justified would be best.

Being relatively new here I'm not sure as to the answer to this one...

...are the folks of Jpod101 likely to come on here and comment on this....?

I also am unable to get Japanese text from pod101 pdfs on my iPod Touch. I have tried PDF expert and PDF Pro. I thought Japanesepod101 said this would be possible.

Jon and Miike,
Please try the Lesson Notes Lite version and see if those show up better on your iPhone.

In my case, with an Android device, I can't even open the files. This only goes for the JPod101 pdfs - I can open and read all others.
