Good (and small) books / novels to read! (request~)

Postby aephion » December 1st, 2010 8:16 am

My real-life Japanese teacher proposed to read a book with me, which sounds like fun to me so I really want to: however, of course I have no clue what book to read. Any fun, but small novel recommendations? It'd really help me out!

The "Japanese Graded readers"( Ask )series is very good. The stories are not very long, you can choose your level ( from 350 to 1300).
You can find it on the site

Fuwa-fuwa by Haruki Murakami is an extremely short book about a cat. It has a few lines per page and illustrations by 安西水丸. It looks kind of like a children's book, but it's not. Your teacher will definitely know Murakami, so it might be interesting. It hardly has any furigana though, which may or may not be a good thing for your current level.
