Record Stores

Postby Solvi » May 24th, 2006 8:15 am

How are the genres divided in a Japanese record store?

Is western music divided into lots of genres? Is it separated from Japanese music? How is the Japanese music divided into genres?

I'm working on my final exam in Music & Globalisation, and any reply is appreciated :)

I don't know how much this will help, but here are the websites of two large record stores you can find in Shibuya. The genres shown on the left-hand side are the typical genres in which the records are classified in Japan. Japanese music is sorted by the names of the musicians in the Japanese alphabetical order (aiueo order) and Western music by the names of the musicians in the English alphabetical order :P

Thanks a lot! That was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for :)

Unfortunately, I didn't get it in time, but I found a nice quote in one of my books that helped me out. But these links really back up the point I made in my exam, so now my confidence is a bit better! :)
