Jazz in Tokyo, Kyoto etc

Postby keleasmith » December 19th, 2009 9:55 pm

Hi
I am travelling to Japan with my 17 year old son in April 2010. Whilst I am more interested in cherry blossom and fabrics, he's into Jazz. He is a dummer for a Jazz combo in New Zealand and is in the Youth Jazz orchestra.

Are there any really good places to take a 17 year old to listen to Jazz? I don't know whether he is too young to go into clubs?

Thanks
Clare

I never managed to get to a jazz club in Tokyo while I was there. I think that the age for entering clubs is 20. That's in line with Japan's drinking age.

There are of many places to go to see jazz live in Tokyo

"While New York is the place to go for jazz musicians, when it comes to jazz fans, it just doesn't get any better than Tokyo."

The site http://www.tokyojazzsite.com/ is a good place to start.

Also try looking at http://dvoi.com/users/doej/musicians/tokyo/jazz/

I'd be interested in hearing about the places you find and enjoyed most so be sure to report back to the community. :)

I hope that helps.
