Japan getting expensive

Postby nenita » November 1st, 2008 8:10 pm

Mina-san konichiwa,

As I'm going to travel to Osaka next week I have lot's of questions, but which worries me the most is the Yen-Euro
relation.
I wanted to buy some yen today(in Germany), the rate was 1 Euro--->115 yen
I didn't buy, but..was this a good decision? how is the rate in Japan at the moment? and sure I'm aware this might
change from one second to the other, from one political decision to the other, and so on and so on.
Any advice would be highly apreciated.
Another important issue is, how to read addresses in Japan, is there any "easy" rule ;-)

Thank you in advance for the responses, I'm really eager to get some news from people who are living in Japan.

nenita-san,
It seems to have been the right decision. The euro today is buying 125.68 yen according to google.

The economic situation is something that I don't know enough about to comment on in depth. All I know is, it's not great.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_address for information on reading Japanese addresses.

I follow the EUR/JPY rate here http://www.ariva.de/quote/profile.m?secu=4439&kx=s

1 euro used to buy 170yen in August. But since the financial crisis the euro went down. Also vs the dollar. So get yourself a timemachine and travel back to August ;)

www.exchangerate.com will give you everything to know in English.

Currently 1 USD is 97 yen, 1 EUR is 137 yen

and if anyone cares 1 USD is .71 EUR

Learn about 3000 kanji, along with their confusing nanori, since a lot of place names use jinmei-you characters
