What does the littleっ mean in words/phrases

Postby karate.1996_511414 » April 30th, 2016 9:38 am

I am curious as to what っ means and if it is different to つ.
I see this character a lot but I never find any learning material about it.
やっ きよく is word I have encountered in your video lesson in the daily dose about "joshi-kai"
Thanks for the replies :)

The っ is called a sokuon, and when represented in romaji is shown as a doubling of the consonant that follows it. So, やっきよく is written as yakkyoku. It's pronounced like a glottal stop, which you can understand as that little pause in the middle of "uh-oh."
