Best way to begin Kanji?

Postby heather_506731 » July 14th, 2015 7:03 pm

Konichiwa!

So, I've just finished memorizing Hiragana, and Katakana, and I'm ready to start having fun! :oiwai: BUT, I'm a little lost. I don't know if I should start learning phrases, and I'm confused on how to go about the Kanji flash cards. Do I need to learn Kun-Yomi, or On-yomi or both? Is there a particular set of steps that will help me succeed in this area? The other two alphabets were so cut and dry on how to go about learning them, but now I feel a little overwhelmed. :( Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is it kanji beginner's day?

Well, you could maybe use the jlpt lists that have been made just for this purpose? Start at jlpt5 and work your way out towards jlpt1.

This site has everything you need :

http://www.tanos.co.uk/jlpt/

Especially anki files, get anki online, on windows, android or whatever, it's very useful.

Go at your own pace but do it regularly and everything should work out eventually.

Eventually you have to learn both kun & on, kanji are only a part of the nightmare, then comes compound kanji and that's when you will need onyomi. So skip readings at your own risks.
