Fitness / Health Club Jobs in Japan?

Postby dusten » June 1st, 2008 8:24 am

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I have to say that the site looks great and I cannot wait to start learning more in here!

I plan on moving to Japan with my wife(日本人) in December/January '09 for a 6month period (Japan's Working Holiday Program for Canadians)

The question is this: For someone who has a fitness teaching/training background but *no degree* and really Poor Japanese (JLPT 4), will I be dreaming if I try to find a job as a personal trainer / fitness instructor in Japan?

Has anyone had any experience with this? Even for Gaijin health clubs in Tokyo...i'd be interested. I wouldn't be choosey.

If anyone has ANY idea, it'd be great.

Thanks!
Dusten

It may be easier if you go for a spouse visa rather than a Working Holiday program - not certain but worth looking into I would think.

About the only "foreign" chain here is Gold's - you could try them. But your best bet would probably be with someone like TAC or YCAC.

You could also advertise in local magazines as a personal trainer - but I think that would be slow without referrals.

This is of course assuming you will be in Tokyo
