Teaching English without a degree.

Postby bobkuruma4 » April 29th, 2008 9:25 pm

I'm an older person who would like to teach English in Japan. Unfortunately I did not get a bachelor's degree when I was younger. Is there any way to come teach without one. I've looked online but have not been able to find the answer. A friend of mine who is a former Jet thought that perhaps having a TEFLA certificate would suffice. Any ideas or info would be really appreciated! Thanks so much. bob

To get a working visa Japan you need to have graduated from a 4 year college.

If you can get a spouse visa, i mean you get married with Japanese, you can run your own business such as a private English school.
It is difficult to get a job without a degree.

Steve, Hatch

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll be going back to school in my old age! Not a bad thing, just going to take awhile. :)

You can also get a visa with 10 years relevant experience as well - or you certainly used to.

May or may not help!

To get a work visa, you need to made a contact with a company.
However, most companies require applicants to have a degree.

I hope your dreams come true soon.
