Number of kun/on readings differ depending on source. WHY?

Postby prgee » October 15th, 2014 9:12 am

BIG HEADACHE. I am bummed by inconsistency of the number of kun or on readings a kanji can have according to different sources. For example, the kanji has:
according to jisho.org, 6 kun readings: うけたまわ.る う.ける、 こ.らす、 ささ.げる、 すく.う、 たす.ける
(to be exact: http://jisho.org/kanji/details/%E6%89%BF%E3%81%91)

according to saiga dictionary http://www.saiga-jp.com/kanji_dictionary.html, 1 kun reading: うけたまわ・る
( to be exact: http://www.saiga-jp.com/cgi-bin/dic.cgi ... 3741_60375)

Why is it so? Which source is more reliable? Do you people know any unquestionably reliable online source? Please help.

Thank you.

Prgee san,

konnichiwa

承’s readings are basically ショウ, ジョウand うけたまわ-る.
‘Basically’ means ‘jouyou’ which is based on the documents provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and is used in laws, official documents, newspaper, magazines, broad cast and so on.
However, kanji has other readings which are called ‘hyougai on kun (means not jouyou kanji)’which means it’s not often used.
Hyougai kun of 承 is う-ける.
Regarding to the websites,
If you click on the こ-らす on the page, http://jisho.org/kanji/details/%E6%89%BF%E3%81%91, the kanji, 承 doesn’t show up. ささ-げる,すく-う, たすけ-る, つい-で and とどめ-る don’t have the kanji neither.
I don’t know why this page has those readings without examples… :?

http://www.saiga-jp.com/cgi-bin/dic.cgi ... 3741_60375
is ok and http://jiten.go-kanken.com/ is also reliable.

I hope it could help you.
