Developing android japanese dictionary

Postby giantspacehampster5802 » May 14th, 2013 8:08 am

Hi, I'm developing android Japanese dictionary, similar to Japanese on iOS, by myself in my free time. I was looking for some general feedback. How much interest is there for an app like this? What features would you want/need? What version of android would you use? Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

Hello. Just saw your thread and it looked lonely. I have a couple android devices so I would enjoy something like this. I'm not sure what all I would desire out of a dictionary app. I suppose the normal stuff like being able to search a word in either japanese or english. Including the kanji in addition to hirigana and katakana if applicable would be nice. Thats all I got for ya. Hope it turns out well.

Hi,

This may be difficult, but adding native speakers pronouncing the words would be great.

Also, being able to have your own 'word bank' would be great.

I often learn Japanese on the go - hence the reason why I am looking for these features on a mobile device (so similar to what jPod already offers but with an interface that is friendly for mobile devices).

Cheers,

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Thankfully because of the work japanesepod101 has done, adding native pronunciation for most words is simple. I'm not sure whether its worth implementing text to speech for words without audio pronunciation as the quality isn't the highest.
