Anyone know of Japanese speaking transcriber?

Postby Brody » June 17th, 2006 5:55 am

I know they have them in English, where you can speak into a microphone and the words are written in a word processor.

I wonder if they have these for Japanese.

I sometimes watch Japanese movies and can't look up words because I can't sort out the sounds. I thought maybe if I had a transcriber, I could play the movie into it and it could write out the word, helping me to unsort all the syllables.

This would save me so much hair.

What you're looking for is called voice recognition software. I would imagine they have Japanese capable ones too, but I have no idea where you would get one.

However, your plan has a major flaw. Computers still aren't very good at recognizing speech. In order for most voice recognition software to be able to transcribe correctly, you often have to speak fairly slowly and clearly. If *you* can't understand what the people are saying, chances are the computer'll have no idea either.
