Peter: Happy New Year everyone. Peter here. There is a New Year’s Card from us posted on our website. So please visit us at japanesepod101.com and be sure to leave us a comment.
Naomi:
Peter: So Sakura san is going home to have おせち which is a traditional Japanese meal for the New Year.
Sakura: Yes. Naomi
Peter: So Naomi Sensei is going to a shrine located near our office
Sakura:
Naomi:
Naomi:
Sakura: そう、なんか celebrity because there is a TV station nearby right?
Peter: TBS.
Sakura: TBS. And they have you know all these programs in New Year, New Year programs で、 like in between times, they come to the shrine.
Peter: Are you serious?
Sakura: That’s what I heard yes.
Naomi:
Sakura:
Naomi: Peter
I think I will go back to the office. It’s such a nice quiet day to get some work done.
Sakura: Oh!
Peter: Sakura san
Peter: So it’s said, New Year’s Day is the key to the year. Sakura san, I don’t really get this.
Sakura: Hmm…
Peter: New Year’s Day is the key to the year.
Sakura: It’s important. So if you do 何?
Peter: That’s what I am trying to figure out, I don’t know.
Sakura:
Peter: From the first day and then every day will…
Naomi:
Peter: Have a good first day and then the rest will fall in line.
Naomi:
Sakura:
M: Ah year of the cow!
Peter: So if you are in Japan or you get a postcard from Japan, there may be a cow on it.
Sakura:
Naomi:
Sakura: Look for it.
Peter: Anybody here, Year of the Cow?
Sakura: No.
Naomi: No.
Sakura: That’s a tricky question.
Because 干支 comes around in every 12 years right. So if you ask somebody’s 干支 you can guess their age.
Naomi: そう。
Peter: Ah so it’s a really good way to…
Sakura:
Naomi: そう。
Peter: But it’s such a common question. Maybe that’s why it’s always asked because like even if you don’t ask if it’s your year, but if you ask the person for the Chinese zodiac, ______ (0:03:23) work backwards.
Naomi: We don’t usually ask Chinese zodiac though.
Sakura:
Peter: Really! I always….
Sakura: We don’t, no…. Especially not to women. Women of certain age You can if you are students because everybody knows if you are around this age.
Peter: So if a visitor came to the office, it’s not recommended to ask Sakura san?
Sakura: No……
Peter: So Sakura san, what are you going to do today on this day, New Year’s Day to make this day the key to the year.
Sakura: I am going to answer all the 年賀状 I received to start off.
Peter: Are you serious?
Sakura: Yes. To make sure that you know, I do things on that day. To do things that I should do today, today.
Peter: That’s such a good answer.
Sakura: Oh thank you. I say that every Year.
Peter: So you’ve been practicing the answer?
Sakura: Practicing.
Peter: And everybody out there, what are you going to do to make today the key to the year?
Naomi: 1
Peter: I will leave the office at 5.
Naomi:
Sakura:
Outro
|
Peter: So from everyone here at japanesepod101.com, we wish you
Naomi:
Sakura:
Peter: Happy New Year and we are looking forward to another great year together.
