Thank you for the reply. I really like ๅฟƒใ‚’้›ใˆใ‚‹ใ€‚I quit smoking, so now I do this a lot. Next time someone sees me breathing deeply with my eyes closed, and asks me what I'm doing, I will say, "ๅฟƒใ‚’้›ใˆใ‚‹ใ€‚โ€ใ€€

็š†ใ•ใ‚“ใ€ใฏใ˜ใ‚ใพใ—ใฆ๏ผใ€€Hi everyone, I'm Kat  I'm new to Japanesepod101.com, and I'll be hosting the Newbie podcast series with Naomi-sensei from now on! ใ‚ˆใ‚ใ—ใใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™!

ใƒคใƒ‰ใ‚ฌใƒชใ•ใ‚“๏ผšใ€€Hmm, 'to snuggle'... As Mr boogersใ•ใ‚“ said, there's ใ€Œ่ชฐใ€…ใซๅฏ„ใ‚Šๆทปใ†ใ€ใ€€(daredare ni yorisล)ใ€€or ใ€Œ่ชฐใ€…ใซใ™ใ‚Šๅฏ„ใ‚‹ใ€ใ€€(daredare ni suriyoru), which both mean 'to draw/get close to someone; to snuggle up to someone; to cuddle close with someone'. You could also say ใ€ŒๆŠฑใๅฏ„ใ›ใ‚‹ใ€ใ€€(dakiyoseru, 'to embrace'). But I have to say I've never heard anyone use these in the way you mean (we use ใ™ใ‚Šๅฏ„ใ‚‹ใ€€when talking about the way an animal will snuggle up to you) except maybe ๆŠฑใๅฏ„ใ›ใ‚‹, or indeed used any of them myself with my partner. I would say ใ€Œใ‚คใƒใƒฃใ‚คใƒใƒฃใ™ใ‚‹ใ€, which is a general and commonly-used phrase meaning 'to flirt/make out/be playful with/cuddle and kiss'. Is this close enough...? Hmm...

Mr boogersใ•ใ‚“: The 'Making Out in Japanese' series is good for a laugh, but I recommend EXTREME caution if you're actually thinking about using a lot of the phrases in there...!

Raymasakiใ•ใ‚“๏ผšใ€€Well, 'Making Out in Japanese' -does- have some phrases that we actually use, but as I said, EXTREME caution recommended with most of them...!

nateใ•ใ‚“๏ผšใ€€ใฏใ„ใ€ใใ†ใงใ™ใ€‚

Indiana23ใ•ใ‚“๏ผšใ€€็พŽใ—ใ„่กจ็พใงใ™ใญใ‡๏ผใ€€What a beautiful image about learning English in a different universe! You're right about ๅฟƒ, kokoro, having other meanings than 'heart': it can mean 'mind', 'spirit', 'emotion'... It's very hard to translate, actually!

As for phrases using ๅฟƒ (I hope you don't have to use ๅฟƒใŒๆญปใ‚“ใงใ„ใ‚‹ very often, by the way(!)) a very common one that you hear very often is ๅฟƒใ‹ใ‚‰, kokoro kara, meaning 'sincerely' or 'deeply', as in: ๅฟƒใ‹ใ‚‰ใŠใ‚ใณ่‡ดใ—ใพใ™, kokoro kara o-wabi itashimasu, 'My sincere apologies.' Another one I like is ๅฟƒใ‚’้›ใˆใ‚‹, kokoro o kitaeru, meaning 'to discipline/train one's mind'... but I don't know how often you'll get to use that, unless you're into martial arts!

I love how all the words are really English. It's like I'm taking English lessons in another universe.

Anyway, KOKORO is not really a heart, but the idea of a heart.

My girlfriend taught me this yesterday. If anyone else has any KOKORO phrases, please post them.

ๅฟƒใŒๆญปใ‚“ใงใ„ใ‚‹ใ€ใ€€kokoro ga shindeiru, which means, dying or dead inside. Like, that person is dead inside. Someone who is heartless.
