Jessi: What are we going to learn in this lesson?
Tomoyuki: 今回は「ご～ください」を復習します。
Jessi: In this lesson, you'll review how to give instructions in an extra formal situation using “お〜ください”.Where does this lesson's conversation take place?
Tomoyuki: バスです。
Jessi: On the bus.
Tomoyuki: ユウナさんとダイチ君がバスに乗っています。富士急ランドに行きたいみたいですね。
Jessi: Yuuna and Daichi are taking a bus to go to an amusement park called Fuji Q Land.
Tomoyuki: それから、バスのアナウンスが流れます。ちょっと難しいですが、がんばって聞いてください。
Jessi: You'll also hear an announcement on a bus.Let's listen to the dialogue and see how much you understand.
DIALOGUE
アナウンス: ご乗車、ありがとうございます。このバスは、河口湖駅行きです。
降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください。
運転中、やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかけることがございます。ご注意ください。

アナウンス: 次は富士山駅、富士山駅でございます。
ユウナ: 富士Qランドに行きたいんですが、着いたら教えてくれますか？
運転手: わかりました。
ユウナ: いくらですか？
運転手: お金は、降りる際にお支払いください。出発しますので、どうぞ、お座りください。
ユウナ: ジェットコースター楽しみ！
ダイチ: おれはお化け屋敷が楽しみだよ。
富士Qのお化け屋敷は、本当に怖いんだって。

Jessi: Thank you for riding with us today.This bus is bound for Kawaguchi-ko station.
アナウンス: 降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください。
Jessi: When you wish to get off, please press the buzzer.
アナウンス: 運転中、やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかけることがございます。ご注意ください。
Jessi: There are times while driving at which it is necessary for the emergency brake to be used.Please be careful.
アナウンス: 次は富士山駅、富士山駅でございます。
Jessi: The next stop is Mt. Fuji station, Mt. Fuji station.
ユウナ: 富士Qランドに行きたいんですが、着いたら教えてくれますか？
Jessi: I want to go to Fuji Q Land. When we get there could you let me know, please?
運転手: わかりました。
Jessi: All right.
ユウナ: いくらですか？
Jessi: How much is it?
運転手: お金は降りる際にお支払いください。
Jessi: Please pay when you get off the bus.
運転手: 出発しますので、どうぞ、お座りください。
Jessi: We're leaving now, so please take a seat.
ユウナ: ジェットコースター楽しみ！
Jessi: I'm looking forward to the roller coasters!
ダイチ: おれはお化け屋敷が楽しみだよ。
Jessi: I'm looking forward to the haunted house.
ダイチ: 富士Qのお化け屋敷は、本当に怖いんだって。
Jessi: Apparently, the Fuji Q haunted house is really scary.
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Jessi: 「富士Qランド」って本当の遊園地の名前ですか？　Is "Fuji Q Land" the name of a real amusement park?
Tomoyuki: ああ、山梨県に「富士急ハイランド」という名前の有名な遊園地があります。
Jessi: あ〜。
Tomoyuki: ダイチ君も言っていましたが、富士急ハイランドのお化け屋敷は、とっても怖くて有名です。
Jessi: Ah, so there's an amusement park called "FUJI-Q HIGHLAND" in Yamanashi prefecture.
Tomoyuki: はい
Jessi: It has a haunted house that is really famous for being scary.
Tomoyuki: そうですね。ジェシーさんは遊園地のお化け屋敷は好きですか？
Jessi: Do I enjoy "haunted house"?
うーん、あんまり好きじゃないですね。I'm not a big fan, actually.
Tomoyuki: あーそうですか。あと、富士急ハイランドはジェットコースターでも有名です。
Jessi: "FUJI-Q HIGHLAND" is also famous for its roller coasters.
Roller coaster は日本語だと「ジェットコースター」っていうんですね。
Tomoyuki: あ、そうですね。「ジェットコースター」はジャパニーズイングリッシュですね。
Jessi: はい。
Tomoyuki: 富士急ハイランドには、ジェットコースターもたくさんありますからね。
Jessi: そうですね。
Tomoyuki: ギネスブックに載っているような、スリルのあるジェットコースターもあります。ジェットコースターが好きなら、おすすめです。
Jessi: There are lots of ジェトコースターor roller coasters at ”FUJI-Q HIGHLAND”. It's well-known for having from pretty crazy ones, actually. One of their roller coasters is even in the Guinness Book of World Records.
トモユキさんは、ジェットコースターは好きですか？
Tomoyuki: はい。とても好きですが、最近はあまり乗っていませんね。
Jessi: あ〜、そうですか。
Tomoyuki: はい。ジェシーさんはどうですか？
Jessi: あ、大好きですね！ I love roller coasters.

VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Jessi: Let's take a close look at the usage of the words or phrases from this lesson. トモユキさん、お願いします。
Tomoyuki: やむを得ず　
Jessi: "by necessity " "unavoidably" "against one's will"
Tomoyuki: 「やむ」は「やめること」という意味で「得ず」は「得ることができない」とか「できない」という意味です。
Jessi: "やむ" in this case means "stopping" or "halt", and "得ず" means "can't obtain." So this phrase literally means "impossible to stop."
Tomoyuki: はい。「仕方なく」とか、「他に方法がないので」という意味です。
Jessi: Right. It corresponds to "by necessity" or "unavoidably" in English.
やむを得ず……ちょっと言いにくいですね(笑)
Tomoyuki: そうですか？　やむを得ず、やむを得ず……(笑) ああ、確かにちょっと言いにくいですね。
Jessi: はい。次の表現は何ですか？What are we looking at next?
Tomoyuki: ブレーキをかける　
Jessi: "to hit the brakes" ブレーキを打つ……じゃないんですね(笑）
Tomoyuki: 違いますね。「かける」は "to operate"という意味もあるんですよ。"to hit the brakes"は「ブレーキをかける」です。
Jessi: それから「急ブレーキ」は「急なブレーキ」、"sudden braking" or "harsh braking."という意味ですか？
Tomoyuki: あ、そうですね。「急ブレーキ」も、よく言いますね。じゃあ例文です。
「やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかけることがあります」
Jessi: もう一度、お願いします。
Tomoyuki: 「やむを得ず、(Jessi;"by necessity") 急ブレーキをかける(Jessi; to hit brakes suddenly) ことがあります (Jessi; "there are occasions when..." )」
Jessi: Can we hear the sentence once again?
Tomoyuki: やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかけることがあります。
Jessi: "There are occasions when we hit brakes suddenly by necessity." In more natural English it becomes "There are times when it is necessary for the emergency brake to be used."
Tomoyuki: はい。では、文法に入りましょう。
Jessi: OK. On to the grammar section.

Lesson focus
Jessi: The focus of this lesson is listening to an announcement on a bus.
In this grammar section, you'll review an extra-formal way to ask someone to do something or suggest that someone do something using "お〜ください".
Tomoyuki: In the dialogue, the announcement said
降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください。
Jessi: "When you wish to get off, please press the buzzer."
Tomoyuki: この「お押しください」(Jessi; please press)　がこのレッスンの文法ですね。
Jessi: Right. The formation is "Honorific prefix "お"＋[ます stem of a verb]＋ください"
Let's show you with some examples. How do you say "to sit"?
Tomoyuki: 座る
Jessi: The ます form is ?
Tomoyuki: 座ります
Jessi: Take off ます to get the ます stem
Tomoyuki: 座り
Jessi: Add the honorific prefix "お" to the beginning.
Tomoyuki: お座り
Jessi: Then attach ください
Tomoyuki お座りください。
Jessi: "Please sit down." OK. Listeners, listen and repeat.
Tomoyuki: お座りください
Jessi: (wait for 5 sec.) Let's do one more. How do you say "to push" or "to press"?
Tomoyuki: 押す
Jessi: The ます stem is?
Tomoyuki: 押し
Jessi: Add "お" to the beginning and "ください" to the end.
Tomoyuki: お押しください
Jessi: "Please press" or "please push". A sample sentence please.
Tomoyuki: ブザーをお押しください。
Jessi: "Please press the buzzer." OK. Listeners, listen and repeat after Tomoyuki "please press the buzzer."
Tomoyuki: ブザーをお押しください。
(wait for 5 sec.) In the dialogue, the announcement said....降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください。
Jessi: 降りる際　means 降りるとき "when you get off".
Tomoyuki: Right.　So this sentence 「降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください」means ？
Jessi: "When you wish to get off, please press the buzzer."
Tomoyuki: はい。では、バスのアナウンスをもう一度聞いてみましょう。
Jessi: Now please listen to the announcement part only and see how much you can understand now.
アナウンス: ご乗車、ありがとうございます。このバスは河口湖駅行きです。
降りる際は、ブザーをお押しください。
運転中、やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかける事がございます。ご注意ください。
次は富士山駅、富士山駅でございます。
Tomoyuki: はい。どうでしたか？
「運転中、やむを得ず、急ブレーキをかけることがございます」が少し難しかったですね。
