Do you know how to how to describe your past habits in Japanese? |
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to talk about things you used to do in the past. |
Let’s look at the main dialogue. |
A person is describing their habits from when they were in university. |
わかいとき わたしは かっこよかったですね。 このとき、 アメリカの大学に りゅうがくしていました。 毎日、 大学のジムで トレーニングしていましたよ。 (Wakai toki watashi wa, kakkoyokatta desu ne. Kono toki, Amerika no daigaku ni ryūgaku shite imashita. Mainichi, daigaku no jimu de torēningu shite imashita yo.) |
I was pretty cool back then. At that time, I was studying abroad at an American university. I trained at the university gym every day. |
In the final sentence, they say " 毎日、 大学のジムでトレーニングしていました (Mainichi, daigaku no jimu de torēningu shite imashita)." By using the て-form verb トレーニングして and attaching it to いました the past form of いる, which marks ongoing states, we show that the action was ongoing or repeated in the past. |
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson. |
