| おかえり｡ 石川さん､ むすめの りんです｡ いつもは 大学のりょうに すんでいます｡ でも､ 今は はる休みでいえに います｡ |
| Okaeri. Ishikawa-san, musume no Rin desu. Itsumo wa daigaku no ryō ni sunde imasu. Demo, ima wa haruyasumi de ie ni imasu. |
| そうですか｡ りんさん､ はじめまして｡ いしかわです｡ |
| Sō desu ka. Rin-san, hajimemashite. Ishikawa desu. |

| Okaeri. Ishikawa-san, musume no Rin desu. Itsumo wa daigaku no ryō ni sunde imasu. Demo, ima wa haruyasumi de ie ni imasu. |
| "Welcome home. Mrs. Ishikawa, this is my daughter Rin. She usually lives in her university dormitory. But now she is at home for spring break." |
| This second sentence is our focus for the lesson. |
| First is the adverb, いつもは (itsumo wa), meaning "usually." いつもは (slow version - breakdown by syllable). いつもは. |
| Next is the particle, に (ni), the location-marking particle. に (slow version - breakdown by syllable). に. |
| Together, it’s 大学のりょうに (daigaku no ryō ni). "in the university dormitory." 大学のりょうに. Given the situation, we translate it as "HER university dormitory." |
| Next is the verb, すんでいます (sundeimasu), meaning "live." すんでいます (slow version - breakdown by syllable). すんでいます. |
| すんでいます comes from the verb, すむ (sumu), meaning "to live." |
