Allan-san,

that's true. Many foreign learners often can't distinguish long sounds and short sounds

simply becuase their native languages have different type(s) of accent: different viewpoints.

If there's anything we can help you with, please feel free to ask us:wink:

With the release of the Japanese language for Siri, it'd be great to get an update on this news post, along with a full list of all the different voice commands available in Japanese. Something like this page: http://www.idoono.com/2011/11/siri-user-guide-siri-commands/

One thing I'm finding the most trouble with is names, especially non Japanese names, given the requirement to use their katakana equivalent. For example, Aaron and Allan are similar in Katakana. アーロン and アラン are different, but the long vowel in Aaron 「アー」 can be tricky to get just right.
