Hi everyone. Welcome to Kanji Time. Today, let’s review N5 kanji. 参りましょう。(Mairimashō.) If you want to do the quiz first, please go to these times.
This kanji means nine. The on-reading for this kanji is キュウ、ク (kyū, ku) as in 九月 (ku-gatsu), meaning September. January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September. And the kun-reading for this kanji is ここの (kokono) as in 九つ (kokonotsu), meaning nine items. 一つ、二つ、三つ、四つ、五つ、六つ、七つ、八つ、九つ。(Hitotsu, futatsu, mittsu, yottsu, itsutsu, muttsu, nanatsu, yattsu, kokonotsu.)
To rest. On-reading for this kanji is キュウ (kyū) as in 休日 (kyūjitsu), meaning holiday.「めっちゃホリデー」。(“Metcha horidē.”) 何?(Nani?) 歌。(Uta.) Yeah! めっちゃホリデー。(Metcha horidē.) へー。(Hē.) ドキドキで夏希望。(Dokidoki de natsu kibō.) Kun-reading for this kanji is やす (yasu) as in 休む (yasumu), meaning to rest.
Fish. On-reading is ギョ (gyo) as in 金魚 (kingyo), meaning goldfish, goldfish. Kun-reading for this kanji is さかな (sakana) or うお (uo), meaning 魚屋 (sakanaya) fish store, fish. If you are a Pisces, Pisces in Japanese is 魚座 (uoza).
Gold, metal, money. On-reading for this kanji is キン、コン (kin, kon) as in 金色 (kin’iro), meaning gold color. This is gold, gold color 金色 (kin’iro). Kun-reading for this kanji is かね (kane) or かな (kana). お金 (o-kane), meaning money.
