:*****Opening********
Jessi:(Title)Hello, I'm Jessi and I'm in the studio joined byโ€ฆ
Naomi:Hi, everyone, Naomi here.ใ“ใ‚“ใซใกใฏใ€ใฟใชใ•ใ‚“ใ€‚็›ด็พŽใงใ™ใ€‚ๅ‰ๅ›žใฏๆ–‡ๅญ—่ชžๅฝ™ใฎๅ•้กŒ3ใจๅ•้กŒ4ใ‚’ๅ‹‰ๅผทใ—ใพใ—ใŸใ€‚
Jessi:So far you've learned what ๅ•้กŒ1 2 3 and 4 of the Kanji and Vocab section are like.
Naomi:ใ“ใฎใƒฌใƒƒใ‚นใƒณใฏใ€ๅ•้กŒ5ใ‚’ๅ‹‰ๅผทใ—ใพใ™ใ€‚
Jessi:In this Lesson, we'll cover ใ‚‚ใ‚“ใ ใ„ 5 of the Kanji and Vocabulary section. In ใ‚‚ใ‚“ใ ใ„๏ผ• you're suppose to choose the sentence that correctly uses the given word.
:*****Instructions********
Jessi:First of all, Naomi-sensei, can you read the instructions for
Jessi: Choose the sentence that uses the given word correctly from 1 to 4.
Naomi:ใคใŽใฎ is "next" or "following". ไฝฟใ„ๆ–น is "how to use"ใ€€so ่จ€่‘‰ใฎไฝฟใ„ๆ–น is "how to use the word" or "usage of the word"
:****How to prepare for ใ‚‚ใ‚“ใ ใ„ 5 ***
Jessi:ใ‚‚ใ‚“ใ ใ„๏ผ• is designed to test how well you are able to use the vocabulary. When you learn new words, get into the habit of looking up sample sentences to see how they are used.
Naomi:ใ‚ใจใ€ไผผใŸๆ„ๅ‘ณใฎ่จ€่‘‰ใซใ‚‚ๆฐ—ใ‚’ใคใ‘ใฆใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚
Jessi:You have to be careful about the words that have similar meanings but are not exactly the same. They might try to trick you on the test.
Naomi:ใŸใจใˆใฐใ€่ฆ‹็‰ฉใจ่ฆ‹ๅญฆใ€‚ๆ„ๅ‘ณใŒใกใ‚‡ใฃใจ้•ใ„ใพใ™ใ€‚
Jessi:่ฆ‹็‰ฉ means "sightseeing" "viewing" or "seeing", while ่ฆ‹ๅญฆ means "observation tour" or "field trip".
Naomi:Both ่ฆ‹็‰ฉ and ่ฆ‹ๅญฆ are the action of seeing something. However, since ่ฆ‹ๅญฆ has the kanji ๅญฆ ("learn") in it, it indicates that someone is seeing something for the purpose of learning or obtaining knowledge.
Jessi:OK. Naomi-sensei is going to read the beginning of a sentence, so please finish the sentence with ่ฆ‹็‰ฉใ™ใ‚‹ or ่ฆ‹ๅญฆใ™ใ‚‹.
Naomi:ๆœ‰ๅใชๅปบ็‰ฉใ‚’ใƒปใƒปใƒป
Jessi:The answer it?
Naomi:Well... it really depends on your purpose, if it's just a regular tour it should be ใ‚†ใ†ใ‚ใ„ใชใ€€ใŸใฆใ‚‚ใฎใ€€ใ‚’ใ€€ใ‘ใ‚“ใถใคใ™ใ‚‹ใ€‚"We visit a famous building."ใ€€But if you went there on a school trip or with the purpose of learning something, ่ฆ‹ๅญฆใ™ใ‚‹ is also fine.
Jessi:So if you're visiting Kyoto for vacation, that would be...
Naomi:ไบฌ้ƒฝใ‚’่ฆ‹็‰ฉใ™ใ‚‹ใ€‚
Jessi:If you're visiting a factory with the purpose of observing it and learning about it, that would be...
Naomi:ๅทฅๅ ดใ‚’่ฆ‹ๅญฆใ™ใ‚‹ใ€‚
Jessi:OK. How about the next pair.
Naomi:ใ€Œใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹ใ€ ใจ ใ€Œใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใ‚‹ใ€ใ‚‚ๆ„ๅ‘ณใŒใกใ‚‡ใฃใจ้•ใ„ใพใ™ใญใ€‚Both ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹ใ€€and ใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใ‚‹ often appear in JLPT. They have similar meanings but are not exactly the same so be careful.
Jessi:ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹(koshou2) is "to go out of order". ใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใ‚‹ is "to break"
But Naomi-sensei. you can say ใ“ใฎใƒ‘ใ‚ฝใ‚ณใƒณใฏใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ใ€‚"This PC is out of order."
and you can also say...ใ“ใฎใƒ‘ใ‚ฝใ‚ณใƒณใฏใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใฆใ„ใ‚‹ใ€‚"This PC is broken."
Are they different?
Naomi: Good question! In that case, they're the same.
You can use both ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹ and ใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใ‚‹ for describing how a machine is broken. However, you can not use ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹ for non-mechanical items.
Jessi: Oh, I see. So you can say...ใใฎใ„ใ™ใฏ ใ“ใ‚ใ‚Œใฆใ„ใ‚‹ใ€‚"That chair is broken. ", but NOT ใใฎใ„ใ™ใฏ ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใ‚‹.
Naomi:Exactly. Unless the chair has some kind of mechanical function.
Jessi: I see, so if it's more of a machine you can use it? ใชใ‚‹ใปใฉใ€‚
Naomi: ใใ‚Œใ‹ใ‚‰ใ€ไป–ๅ‹•่ฉžใจ่‡ชๅ‹•่ฉžใ‚‚ๆฐ—ใ‚’ใคใ‘ใฆใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚
Jessi:Ah...transitive verb and intransitive verbs? They are really tricky aren't they. Basically, transitive verbs have an object, and intransitive verbs don't.
In this lesson, let's just memorize some of them as a set.
Naomi:่‚ฒใฆใ‚‹๏ผˆใใ ใฆใ‚‹๏ผ‰
Jessi:"to raise" "to bring up" -Transitive verb
Naomi:Intransitive verb is ่‚ฒใค๏ผˆใใ ใค๏ผ‰
Jessi:"to grow up" "to be raised" ใ€€Can we hear some sample sentences so that we can see how both of them are used?
Naomi:ใ‚ใŸใ—ใฏใ€€่Šฑใ‚’ ใใ ใฆใ‚‹ใ€‚"I grow flowers." So here, "flowers" is the object of ใใ ใฆใ‚‹. And the verb tใ€€่ŠฑใŒ ใใ ใคใ€‚ "Flowers grow." Here, we're not saying who is doing the growing, just saying that it's a natural thing that flowers grow.
Naomi:่ฆ‹ใคใ‘ใ‚‹๏ผˆใฟใคใ‘ใ‚‹๏ผ‰"to find" -Transitive
่ฆ‹ใคใ‹ใ‚‹๏ผˆใฟใคใ‹ใ‚‹๏ผ‰"to be found" "to be discovered"-Intransitive.
Jessi:Sample sentence please.
Naomi:ใ‚ใŸใ—ใฏใ€ใ ใ‚Œใ‹ใฎใŠใ•ใ„ใตใ‚’ ใฟใคใ‘ใพใ—ใŸใ€‚"I found somebody's wallet."
็งใฎใŠใ•ใ„ใตใŒ ใฟใคใ‹ใ‚Šใพใ—ใŸใ€‚"My wallet was found."
Jessi: It might help to study these in pairs! And not only that, but you should include the object or subject with the particle before it so you remember which type it is. Like, ่ฒกๅธƒใ‚’่ฆ‹ใคใ‘ใ‚‹ and ่ฒกๅธƒใŒ่ฆ‹ใคใ‹ใ‚‹ใ€‚
:****Quiz***
Jessi:OK. Next let's do some practice questions.
We'll give you a word so please choose the sentence that uses the given word correctly.
The first word is..ใ‘ใ‚“ใŒใ
Naomi:1 ใŒใใ›ใ„ใฎใจใใ€ใ“ใ†ใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ใ‚’ใ€€ใ‘ใ‚“ใŒใใ—ใŸใ€‚
2 ใฒใพใชใฎใงใ€ใˆใ„ใŒใ‚’ใ€€ใ‘ใ‚“ใŒใใ—ใŸใ€‚
Jessi:The correct sentence is...
Naomi:1 ใŒใใ›ใ„ใฎใจใใ€ใ“ใ†ใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ใ‚’ใ€€ใ‘ใ‚“ใŒใใ—ใŸใ€‚
Jessi:"When I was student, I went on an observation tour of a factory."
So What's wrong with the second sentence? ใฒใพใชใฎใงใ€ใˆใ„ใŒใ‚’ใ€€ใ‘ใ‚“ใŒใใ—ใŸใ€‚
Naomi:Well, that depends on the movie. It it's an educational movie, it could work. But it's not really natural. It should be ๆ˜ ็”ปใ‚’ใฟใŸ. So...ใฒใพใชใฎใงใ€ใˆใ„ใŒใ‚’ใฟใŸ ใ€‚
Jessi"Since I had nothing to do, I watched a movie."
OK. One more practice question. The next word is ๆ•…้šœ.
Naomi:1 ใ‚ใชใŸใฎใ€ใใคใ—ใŸใฏใ€ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€‚
2ใใฎใ€€ใใ‚‹ใพใฏใ€ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€‚
Jessi:The correct sentence is...
Naomi:2ใใฎใ€€ใใ‚‹ใพใฏใ€ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€‚
Jessi:"That car is broken."
What's wrong with the choice1 ใ‚ใชใŸใฎใ€ใใคใ—ใŸใฏใ€ใ“ใ—ใ‚‡ใ†ใ—ใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€‚?
Naomi:ใ€€You're already laughing!
Jessi: I'm already laughing because it just sounds so off!
Naomi: ใใคใ—ใŸ are socks, aren't they? You can't say "Hey your socks are out of order", can you?
Jessi: That would be pretty strange!
Naomi: It should be ใ‚ใชใŸใฎใใคใ—ใŸใฏใ€€ใ‚„ใถใ‚Œใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€‚ใ‚„ใถใ‚Œใ‚‹ใ€€is "to wear out" "to get torn"
Jessi:So that full sentence one more time is?
Naomi:ใ€€ใ‚ใชใŸใฎ้ดไธ‹ใฏ็ ดใ‚Œใฆใ„ใพใ™ใ‚ˆใ€€
Jessi: And it means "Your socks are torn."
So, how did it go? Did you get the correct answer?
Naomi:That's all for this lesson.
Jessi:Make sure you study hard, and see you next time!
Naomi:ใ˜ใ‚ƒใพใŸ!
