**Opening**
Jessi:Hi everyone, welcome to the New JLPT N4 Prep Course Lesson 12. I'm Jessi and I'm here in the studio joined by...
Naomi:こんにちは、みなさん。直美です。Hi everyone, Naomi here.
前回は 聴解のもんだい3を勉強しましたね。
Jessi:In the last lesson, we covered Question 3 of the Listening comprehension section.
Naomi:このレッスンでは、問題4を紹介します。
Jessi:And in this Lesson, we'll cover the last question, Question 4 of the Listening Comprehension section.
Naomi:そうですね。もんだい4は聴解の最後のセクションですね。
もんだい4は一番良い、返事を選ぶもんだいです。
Jessi: In Question 4, you listen to a statement or question, and choose the appropriate response from the given choices.
Naomi:今回は、絵などがありません。
Jessi: Right. There are no pictures in Question 4. Okay, let's take a look at the instructions.
**Instructions**
Jessi: Naomi-sensei, please read us the instructions for Question 4.
Naomi: Sure. 問題4では 絵 などが ありません。
Jessi: In Question 4, There are no pictures or answer choices printed in the booklet.
Naomi: まず、文を 聞いてください。それから、そのへんじを聞いて、1から 3の中から 正しい答えを ひとつ えらんで ください。
Jessi: First, listen to the statement or question. Then, choose the best response to it from 1 to 3.
Naomi: So, there are no visual clues this time.
Jessi: Right. No pictures, no text, nothing. You have to rely solely on your listening skills to get the correct answer.
Naomi: Also, the statement and choices are only read once.
Jessi: Yes, so you have to listen very closely. Some of the sentences you have to respond to are questions, and some are statements. In the questions, it's important to be able to pick out the vital question word.
Naomi: Right, like どこ, where, いつ, when, どうして, why... etc.
Jessi: Here's a technique for answering these kinds of questions. Remember that you only hear the answer choices once. So, when you hear each answer, you should make a note of whether it is correct or not right away.
Naomi: That's a good idea. Otherwise, you may forgot what the answer choices are.
Jessi: Yes, so use your judgment and determine whether the choices are correct or incorrect right away. That will help a lot.
Naomi: Okay, let's get into some practice questions!
Jessi: In the first two, you must choose the correct answer to the questions.
**練習問題**
Jessi: Here is the first question.
① wh-Q
1) 明日、どこで会いましょうか。
1. じゃ、8時に会いましょう。
2. はい、わかりました。
3. では、えきで会いましょう。
Jessi: Okay Naomi-sensei, and the answer is?
Naomi: Choice 3. では、えきで会いましょう。 "Let's meet at the station."
Jessi: Can we hear the question one more time?
Naomi: Sure. 明日、どこで会いましょうか。"Where should we meet tomorrow?"
Jessi: What's the key question word we should have looked out for?
Naomi: どこ, meaning where.
Jessi: So we know that the answer needs some kind of location. Choice 3 was the only one - it had 駅, the word for "train station". では、えきで会いましょう。 "Let's meet at the station." Okay, on to the next question!
② simple Q
すみません、今、時間ありますか。
1. ええ。なんですか。
2. えっと、9時半です。
3. とけいは・・・あ、あそこですよ。
Jessi: Okay Naomi-sensei, and the answer is?
Naomi: Choice 1. ええ。なんですか。 "Sure. What is it?"
Jessi: Can we hear the question one more time?
Naomi: Sure. すみません、今、時間ありますか。"Excuse me, do you have time right now?"
Jessi: What's the key phrase we should have looked out for?
Naomi: ありますか? meaning "do you have?" In this case, it was 時間ありますか, so they're asking "do you have time?"
Jessi: This is tricky because if you only hear the word 時間 and nothing else, you might have thought they were asking what time it was, or something like that.
Naomi: Very true. So, you need to pay close attention to the question itself.
Jessi: Okay, on to the next question! This time, you are required to choose the appropriate response for the given statement.
③ statement
来週から、おきなわに りょこうに行くんです。
1. へー。いいですね。
2. おかえりなさい。
3. おだいじに。
Jessi: Okay Naomi-sensei, and the answer is?
Naomi: Choice 1. へー。いいですね。 "Wow, how nice!"
Jessi: Can we hear the statement one more time?
Naomi: Sure. 来週から、おきなわに りょこうに行くんです。"I'm going to Okinawa on a trip next week."
Jessi: What are the key words we should have looked out for?
Naomi: Hmm, I would say 旅行に行く, "to go on a trip".
Jessi: I think so too. 旅行 is a vacation, and when we hear 行く we know the person is going to go in the future.
Naomi: Right. いいですね means "that's nice", or "that's great!". So, can say it when someone tells you something fun or interesting that they're going to do.
**Ending**
Jessi: All right everyone, how did you do on the listening questions?
Naomi: We hope you were feeling confident!
Jessi: Yes, and if you'd like more practice, make sure to check out the bonus track for this lesson. There you will find more practice questions just like these. Okay, well Naomi-sensei... that does it for this lesson, and this series!!
Naomi: Yes, our JLPT N4 series has come to end!
Jessi: We really hope this series has prepared you for the real test. Please don't hesitate to ask us any last minute questions!
Naomi: Leave us your comments in the comment section. Best of luck on the test! がんばってください!
Jessi: はい、がんばってください!Thanks for listening to this JLPT N4 series!
Naomi: ありがとうございました!
Jessi: Until next time..!
Naomi: じゃまた!

② wh-Q
テストは何時までですか。
1. えっと、9時からです。
2. あ、9時までです。
3. まだ9時ですよ。
Jessi: Okay Naomi-sensei, and the answer is?
Naomi: Choice 2. あ、9時までです。 "Oh, it's until 9."
Jessi: Can we hear the question one more time?
Naomi: Sure. テストは何時までですか。"Until what time is the test?"
Jessi: What's the key question word we should have looked out for?
Naomi: 何時まで, meaning "until what time". 何時 is "what time", and まで is "until".
Jessi: The まで part is also important in this case, because the other answer choices also had to do with time.
Naomi: Right. The question was asking 何時まで, so the answer also needed まで in it. 9時までです。"It's until 9."
Jessi: Okay, on to the next question!
⑤ statement
今夜は雪がふるそうですよ。
1. わかりませんでした。
2. あ~。だから寒いんですね。
3. はい。ゆうべ雪がふりましたね。
Jessi: Okay Naomi-sensei, and the answer is?
Naomi: Choice 2. あ~。だから寒いんですね。 "Ah, that's why it's so cold."
Jessi: Can we hear the statement one more time?
Naomi: Sure. 今夜は雪がふるそうですよ。"I hear it's going to snow tonight."
Jessi: What are the key words we should have looked out for?
Naomi: Hmm, I would say 今夜, tonight, and 雪が降る, "going to snow".
Jessi: Yes, that's all you really need to know for this one. And so the correct answer is "Ah, that's why it's so cold."
Naomi: Right. あ~。だから寒いんですね。

Mary Waialeale san,

Konnichiwa.

This lesson is not targeting 2016 but a general lesson for JLPT N4.

If you can perfectly understand this lesson, you will probably pass the test.

Hi from Hawaii...is this content for the JLPT 4 of JLPT 5 of 2016? I notice the last comment was posted in 2014.

Amanda san,

こんにちは。

The last wa is a particle so it must be は.

The reason why No2 is not the correct answer is ‘うん’.

The うんmeans ‘yes’ so the person who says ‘うん’ agrees with the first speaker.

The first speaker asks the second one to wash the cup.

‘あらっておいて’ is a request and means ‘please wash the cup’ so in this case ‘yes’ means ‘yes, I will’.

However, ‘yes, I will wash the cup’ should not followed by ‘it’s been washed’.

It should be ‘うん、わかった’.

If a sentence kind of あらってあった is put, the full sentences should be うん、わかった。でも、コップはあらってあるよ.

I hope it could help you.

こんにちわ

EX3の3、どうして答えは2番ではないですか。

Q:そのコップ、あらっておいてね。 ー This cup has been washed.

1:えー。いやだよ。 - Yes, I dislike.

2;うん、コップは、あらってあったよ。 - Yes, it has been washed.

3:コップあらってみたよ。 - I tried to wash it.

Is my interpretation correct? Thanks!
