Hi BRIAN KATCHMAR,
Thank you for the comment!

Actually ticket machines show kanji and hiragana mixed up.
I think, however, some of them have yomi-gana(readings written in hiragana).

BTW, when you visit Japan next time, please check vending machines for drinks, showing โ€ใ‚ใคใ„” or โ€ใคใ‚ใŸใ„โ€ on thier buttons.
Do you know which means “hot/cold”? Can you choose the right one? ๐Ÿ˜„

Would ticket machines really only show Hiragana, I’ve been under the increased impression that most signs and machines I try to use in Japan are going to also show Kanji.

Hi Dan,
Thank you for the comment!

Why don’t you use a ticket machine in Japanese mode next time?๐Ÿ˜„
Hope this lesson helps you buy a ticket in Japanese!

I get where the lesson is coming from, but I can’t get it out of my head that I never came across a ticket machine in Japan that didn’t have an English language mode…

A reading comprehension course for “absolute beginners” should be using vocabulary that an “absolute beginner” would actually *know*. I know the words “tokkyuu” and “futsuu”, but only because I learned them while studying for the JLPT N4, which is a far cry from “absolute beginner”.
