Thank you for asking us here.

>> what the difference between 食べた and 食べました。

Yes those are past tense.

「た」 is plain dictionary form which we use in informal situation.

「ました」is past tense of masu form which will be used in formal situation.

Please check out this grammar point: https://www.japanesepod101.com/learningcenter/reference/grammar/376?

Thank you for your positive feedback ;)

There are several ways to say First time in Japanese: はじめて, いちどめ, いっかいめ,だいいち, さいしょ,

So If you meant ”I understood in first time", You can say 「いちどめ/いっかいめ/さいしょ でわかりました」

...にします means "I will go for....." or "I will take....."

Hope you will continue enjoying study with us ;)

Hi ディアナ,

Thanks for studying with us and asking a question.

In the video, they are still deciding what to order. That's why the woman says "おいしそうですね" which means "looks tasty."

Sincerely,

Miki H

こんばんは、Team JapanesePod!

すみません。。。could you please explain why it is said おいしそうですね instead of おいしいいですね, as I would have expected?

Hi Clara,

Thank you for your comment!

"します" is a polite form of "する" meaning "do". In this case, " ~にします" means "I'll have ~” or "I'll take ~".

"ちゅうもん(する)", on the other hand, means ”(to) order".

Hope this helps you.
