Hi Aislinn King,

Thank you for your question!

I'm sorry for replying you so late.

ใใ ใ•ใ„ and ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ are similar, but they are different.

ใใ ใ•ใ„ means "please give me" and is always used after "[something] ใ‚’โ€, like

ๆฐดใ‚’ใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚(Please give me a water.)

Also, it's also used with a verb, called "the-form of a verb", meaning "please do something."

่ฆ‹ใ›ใฆใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚(Please show me.)

And ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ means "please" and is also used with "[something] ใ‚’โ€, like

ๆฐดใ‚’ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ใ€‚(Please give me a water.)

It is not used with a verb, but with an adverb, like

ใ‚†ใฃใใ‚ŠใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ใ€‚(Slowly, please.)

You can see and check the differences from here.

I've heard ใใ ใ•ใ„ and ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ both used when making requests, and when I have been in shops and restaurants in Japan I have often used: ใ“ใ‚Œใ‚’ใŠใญใŒใ„ใ—ใพใ™ as an easy short-hand when making requests. I use ใใ ใ•ใ„ less as I'm not entirely sure about how interchangeable ใใ ใ•ใ„ and ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ are, and when it is appropriate to use one and not the other. I don't know if you cover this in a later lesson, but what is the main difference between ใใ ใ•ใ„ and ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ when making requests? Is ใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™ more polite? Is there one you'd use more in a restaurant setting vs. business setting? Many thanks.
